Overview

What Claude is

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant. It is known for long, careful reading, clear prose and a measured tone, and it is widely used for document analysis, writing, research synthesis and software engineering.

Beyond chat, Claude offers Projects for shared context, Skills for repeatable instructions, connectors that link it to tools and data, and Claude Code for working inside a codebase. Those features make it a platform for team workflows, not just a chat box.

Current models. Anthropic's current line-up is the Claude 5 generation: public reports describe Claude Fable 5 (June 2026), Claude Opus 5 (July 2026) and Claude Opus 5.5 (September 2026). Confirm current names and limits on Anthropic's site.

Coding, analytics, documents, research

How it performs by task

5

Coding

Very strong for reading a whole codebase, planning a change and making careful edits, especially through Claude Code.

4

Analysis & analytics

Good at reasoning about tables, contracts and reports, and at explaining its logic. Use it to draft the analysis, then verify key figures.

5

Documentation & writing

A standout for long documents, structured briefs, policy drafts and editing in a consistent voice.

4

Research

Handles very long source material well; pair it with connectors or search to bring in current information.

Practical tips

Get more from Claude

  1. Put stable context (house style, glossary, policies) in a Project instead of repeating it in every chat.
  2. Package repeatable processes as Skills so everyone runs the same steps.
  3. Connect it to the tools your team already uses, and start with read-only access.

Watch-outs

  • Connectors expand what it can see: review permissions like any new integration.
  • Long outputs still need a human check for accuracy and tone.
